Recent builds

Real coops, real yards, real sizes.

Measurements are length × width × height in feet. Every build below started as somebody's idea and a spot in their yard. If one is close to what you want, ask about it and we'll take it from there.

White 10 by 6 coop with gray shutters and metal roof, installed in Phoenix
10×6×6 · 6×6 run + 4×6 coop

The one everybody asks for

Phoenix

Our most popular model. Enclosed coop with nest boxes and roost bars, walk-in run, pop door between the two. This one is so roomy!

Long narrow white coop fitted along a side yard wall
15×4×6 · 5×4 enclosed coop

Long and skinny

Queen Creek

Built for a side yard. Nest boxes open from the outside, so you can grab eggs without walking in. Long and skinny, but awful pretty.

Raised coop over run

Charcoal & cedar

Coop up top, run underneath, cedar-stained door and shutters. One commenter: Love the colors BIG TIME.

Macaw aviary

Florence

Sally-port double door so nobody flies off. Stainless inside, galvanized outside, and an access tunnel through the wall to the macaws' air-conditioned room, ready for their hatch.

Tall tan catio with many wooden platforms against a house
6×3.5×8.5 · catio

The platform tree

East Mesa

Eleven platforms in one catio, climbing up a built-in tree. The heat damn near killed me on this build 😅 but I love how this catio turned out.

10×5×6 · pet yard

One for the cat and the Frenchie

Chandler

Turf floor, shelves for the cat, and a pet door straight into the house. The client sent photos of both of them using it.

8×6×6 · quail

Quail, with a pen inside the pen

Our coop design, tweaked for quail. Has a separate pen inside for splitting birds up, a flip-up door for cleaning, and a top you can use as a shelf.

The Willis Farm

About 500 pounds each, hauled up on our trailer and unloaded with the farm's tractor. Our favorite delivery ever.

A real one, straight off the clipboard.

How it starts

It starts on the clipboard.

You don't need plans or a size. Tell us about the spot and the animals, and Justin draws it out by hand before anything gets cut. This one is a 10×20:

  • 6 feet of enclosed coop, 14 feet of run
  • Nesting boxes along the side
  • Two high removable roost bars, plus lower floating ones
  • A window, and a walk-in door to the run

How we build

The stuff you only notice later.

Raccoons, coyotes and hawks test a coop every night. Cleaning it, every week. These are the parts we sweat over.

Aviary door showing stainless mesh inside and galvanized wire outside

Two layers of wire

Stainless steel mesh on the inside. Thicker galvanized wire on the outside keeps predators out.

“The birds can't reach the galvanized wire!”
Inside a coop: nest boxes and a window

Nest boxes & roosts built in

Nest boxes, roost bars, a window and a pop door to the run, all built into the coop.

Flip-up side panel open on a white enclosure

Doors where you need them

Flip-up panels for cleaning and hatches for eggs, so you're not crawling in on your knees.

Inside a charcoal coop: cedar roost bars and nest boxes

Metal roofs, real finishes

Corrugated metal roofs for the sun and the monsoons, finished in paint and stain, not bare lumber.

About us

Justin & Margaret

Coop There It Iz is Justin Conley and his fiancée Margaret, out of Mesa. Justin does the building, the delivering and, more often than he'd like, the lifting of things meant for two people.

We keep our own flock, so we build what a chicken actually needs. In summer we freeze mealworm and berry popsicles for them. One of our hens, Lilah, went blind after fowl pox, and she still runs the place.

"We're so busy right now, and most animals have babies in the spring. So I got duck people, chicken people and rabbit people calling me like crazy."Justin, on 12News (April 2025)

Margaret's advice, from the same story: "Chickens get bored, don't keep them too cooped up." Read the 12News story
